Christchurch Priory Youth Choir
Last updated Tuesday, 12 November, 2024
Do you love to sing? Come and join in the joy of music and power of singing in a fun and inclusive community here in Christchurch for all in school years 8 to 13.
Events
We had a great time on Saturday 19th October, news of the next workshop will follow soon! If interested please email David Beeby, Assistant Director of Music. (david.beeby@christchurchpriory.org)
Musical Enjoyment
We are very excited to have launched the Christchurch Priory Youth Choir. This new development gives opportunities to young people who enjoy singing, to participate in termly projects throughout the year. All students in Years 8–13 are encouraged to come along to experience the fun of singing together in a choir; whether you have lots of musical experience or not at all, you are most welcome.
Professional Training
The Youth Choir is run by David Beeby, Assistant Director of Music, who has a wealth of experience in secondary school music teaching and is well-placed to lead and encourage young people in their music making. Acknowledging the busy regular routines of young people, this allows for enjoyable choral experiences without a weekly routine of rehearsals.
We’ll cover a wide range of repertoire and musical styles, with regular opportunities both to participate in choral services at Christchurch Priory and to perform in the wider community. There is no requirement to be able to read music and no formal musical education is required. And what’s more, it’s totally free!
Composing & Choral Directing
Apart from the singing, the Youth Choir members are encouraged to learn the skills of choral directing, with opportunities to be “up front” with the group, if they wish. In addition, as a composer, David encourages Youth Choir members in their creativity & composition skills – a support for the work of young composers in their GCSE and A Level work.
